Combatant Ranking System
Bikkja – New to the Rogin
-Must take the Rogin oaths. -May display the Raidho (Runic R) on garb or gear. -Receive certificate of induction. Wildman – Six months in the Rogin -Must show six months active membership since earning Bikkja to join the Rogin.* - Must obtain weapons appropriate to the fighter’s preferred style. -Must have two sets of beginner or better garb. -Must be able to craft garb and gear meeting minimum Dagorhir requirements, e.g. a t-tunic and blue sword. -Must pass oral test on basic Dagorhir rules (weapon damage, etc.). -Must submit written character backstory, in-character photos appreciated. -Must pass a review of conduct.** -May display the battleaxe on garb or gear. -Receive certificate of rank. -Receive Raidho pendant. Guard – Eighteen months in the Rogin -Must show one year active membership since earning Wildman. -Must obtain weapons appropriate to a second chosen style or spare weapons for the first. -Must have two sets of veteran level garb. -Must pass oral test on specific Dagorhir rules (weapon checking, armor checking, etc.). -Must volunteer regularly for at least one of heralding, weapons check, troll, security and medics/shadows. -Must pass a gauntlet of the five most senior Rogin, Guard and below, present at any practice, day battle or overnight event.*** -Must pass a review of conduct. -Receive certificate of rank. -Receive belt knife. -Released from “the game”. (Which you’ve just lost, unless you’ve reached this rank or been previously released by Frothgar. :D ) Warrior – Three years in the Rogin -Must show eighteen months active membership since earning Guard. -Must prove knowledge in at least one battlefield-applicable non-combat skill, e.g. leather or metalworking, sewing (especially for battle-ready garb), or foamsmithing. Other skills may be approved by a unit-wide vote. -Must have an adequate stock of passing weapons to allow the fighter to safely equip one new fighter as well as him or herself without sacrificing weapons of sentimental value.**** -Must be able to teach any experience gained from the fighter’s chosen non-combat skill(s) at a basic level to any who wish to learn. -Must have two sets of veteran level fighting garb and one set of veteran level feast garb. -Must volunteer regularly for at least one of heralding, weapons check, troll, security and medics/shadows. -Must pass a gauntlet of the five most senior Rogin, Warrior and below, present at any practice, day battle or overnight event. -Must pass a review of conduct. -Receive certificate of rank. -Receive one-handed weapon of choice. Torqsman – Five years in the Rogin -Must show two years active membership since earning Warrior. -Must regularly loan spare weapons to and teach new fighters, if any are present. -Must be able to teach any experience gained from the fighter’s chosen non-combat skill(s) at an intermediate level to any who wish to learn. -Must have at least three sets of veteran level fighting garb and one set of veteran level feast garb. -Must volunteer regularly for at least two of heralding, weapons check, troll, security and medics/shadows. -Must show proficiency with at least two weapon styles. -Must pass a gauntlet of the seven most senior Rogin, Torqsman and below, present at any day battle or overnight event. -Must pass a review of conduct. -Receive certificate of rank. -Receive torq. Ulfhedhnar – Seven years in the Rogin -Must show two years active membership since earning Torqsman. -Must show proficiency in at least one battlefield-applicable non-combat skill, with proficiency to be determined by a unit-wide vote unless the fighter’s proficiency is self-evident. -Must regularly loan spare weapons to and teach new fighters, if any are present. -Must be able to teach any experience gained from the fighter’s chosen non-combat skill(s) at an advanced level to any who wish to learn. -Must have at least three sets of veteran level fighting garb and one set of veteran level feast garb. -Must be able to consistently offer passing garb to new fighters.**** -Must volunteer regularly for at least two of heralding, weapons check, troll, security and medics/shadows. -Must assist in organizing and running a day battle. -Must show proficiency in a period non-combat skill (does not need to be battlefield-applicable). -Must show exceptional skill with one weapon style and proficiency with two others. -Must pass a gauntlet of the seven most senior Rogin, Ulfhedhnar and below, present at any day battle or overnight event. -Must pass a review of conduct. -Receive certificate of rank. -Receive faux wolf fur mantle. Huscarl – Ten years in the Rogin -Must show three years active membership since earning Ulfhedhnar. -Must show proficiency in two battlefield-applicable non-combat skills. -Must regularly loan spare weapons to and teach new fighters, if any are present. -Must be able to teach any experience gained from the fighter’s chosen non-combat skills to any who wish to learn. At least one Rogin must acknowledge that the fighter has assisted in significantly raising his or her skill level through teaching. -Must organize and run a structured basic class in one of the fighter’s chosen non-combat skills. -Must have at least three sets of veteran level fighting garb and two sets of veteran level feast garb. -Must be able to consistently offer passing garb to new fighters. -Must organize and run a day battle. -Must volunteer regularly for at least two of heralding, weapons check, troll, security and medics/shadows. -Must show proficiency in two period non-combat skills. -Must show exceptional skill with two weapon styles and proficiency with two others. -Must pass a gauntlet of the ten most senior Rogin, Huscarl and below, present at any overnight event. -Must pass a review of conduct. -Receive certificate of rank. -Receive two-handed weapon or shield of choice. Jarl – Fifteen years in the Rogin -Must show five years active membership since earning Huscarl. -Must regularly loan spare weapons to and teach new fighters, if any are present. -Must be able to teach any experience gained from the fighter’s chosen non-combat skills to any who wish to learn. At least two Rogin must acknowledge that the fighter has assisted in significantly raising their skill level through teaching and at least one Rogin must acknowledge that the fighter has assisted in raising his or her skill to an advanced level through teaching. -Must have at least five sets of veteran level fighting garb and two sets of veteran level feast garb. -Must be able to consistently offer good garb to new fighters. -Must consistently organize and teach structured classes in the fighter’s chosen non-combat skills. -Must volunteer regularly for at least two of heralding, weapons check, troll, security and medics/shadows. -Must organize and run an overnight event. -Must show proficiency in three period non-combat skills. -Must show exceptional skill with three weapon styles and proficiency with three others. -Must pass a gauntlet of the fifteen most senior Rogin, Rí/Banríon and below, present at any overnight event. -Must pass a review of conduct. -Receive certificate of rank. -Receive sword or other steel weapon. ---A fighter may choose to take the feminine title Banríon over the masculine Rí at their own discretion. |
Non-Combatant Ranking System
Bikkja – New to the Rogin, petitioner

Freeman- Eighteen months in the Rogin -Must show one year active membership since making Wildman -Must obtain two sets of Veteran level garb -Must pass oral test on specific Dagorhir rules (weapon checking, armor checking, etc.). -Must volunteer regularly for at least one of heralding, weapons check, troll, security and medics/shadows. -Must help prepare one meal for the unit. -Must “Scout” camp for one night; tend fire at a large event for one night. -Must produce a piece of craftsmanship deemed worthy by 5 members for advancement (five unit members must agree that the requirements have been satisfied to the unit leader or Chieftain that this member is ready for advancement) -Must pass a review of conduct. -Receive certificate of rank. -Receive belt knife. Scoph- Three years in the Rogin -Must show eighteen months active membership since earning Freeman. -Must prove knowledge in at least one battlefield-applicable non-combat skill, e.g. leather or metalworking, sewing (especially for battle-ready garb), or foamsmithing. Armiger- Five years in the Rogin -Must show two years active membership since earning Scoph. -Must regularly assist in making or tending fire, or assisting to cook meals for the unit. -Must be able to teach any experience gained from the person’s chosen non-combat skill(s) at an intermediate level to any who wish to learn. -Must have at least three sets of veteran level plain garb and one set of veteran level feast garb. -Must volunteer regularly for at least two of heralding, weapons check, troll, security and medics/shadows. -Must produce a piece of craftsmanship deemed worthy by seven members, Armiger/ Torqsman or below -Must show proficiency in chosen non-combat skill (cooking, leather crafting, etc.) -Must pass a review of conduct. -Receive certificate of rank. -Receive Triscal pendant Doorward- Seven years in the Rogin -Must show two years active membership since earning Armiger. -Must show proficiency in at least two battlefield-applicable non-combat skill, with proficiency to be determined by a unit-wide vote unless the member’s proficiency is self-evident. -Must regularly loan spare garb to and teach new non-combatants skills, if any are present. -Must be able to teach any experience gained from the fighter’s chosen non-combat skill(s) at an advanced level to any who wish to learn. -Must have at least three sets of veteran level plain garb and one set of veteran level feast garb. -Must be able to consistently offer passing garb to new members.**** -Must volunteer regularly for at least two of heralding, weapons check, troll, security and medics/shadows. -Must assist in organizing and running a day battle. -Must show proficiency in two period non-combat skill (does not need to be battlefield-applicable). -Must produce a piece of craftsmanship deemed worthy by seven members, Doorward/ Ulfhethnar or below. -Must pass a review of conduct. -Receive certificate of rank. -Receives faux deer fur mantle Culdees- Ten years in the Rogin -Must show three years active membership since earning Doorward. -Must show proficiency in three era- appropriate non-combat skills -Must regularly tend fire/ act as campmaster for overnight events. -Must be able to teach any experience gained from the fighter’s chosen non-combat skills to any who wish to learn. At least three Rogin must acknowledge that the fighter has assisted in significantly raising his or her skill level through teaching. -Must organize and run a structured basic class in one of the fighter’s chosen non-combat skills. -Must have at least three sets of veteran level plain garb and two sets of veteran level feast garb. -Must be able to consistently offer passing garb to new fighters. -Must organize and run a day battle. -Must volunteer regularly for at least two of heralding, weapons check, troll, security and medics/shadows. -Must produce a piece of craftsmanship deemed worthy by ten members Culdees/ Huscarl and below. -Receive certificate of Rank -Receive simple set of feast ware (plate, bowl, and utensils) or Bog chair. Thane- Fifteen years in the Rogin -Must show five years active membership since earning Culdees. -Must regularly loan spare garb of moderate quality to new members, if present -Must be able to teach experience gained from the person's chosen non-combat skills to any who wish to learn. At least three Rogin must acknowledge that the member has assisted in significantly raiding his or her skill level through teaching. -Must show at least two period methods of starting a campfire -Must have at least three sets of veteran level pain garb, and two sets fof feteran leveal feast garb. -Must show exceptional skill with three non-combat skills of choice -Must regularly tend/ police camp after camp outs. -Must produce a piece of craftsman ship deemed worthy by ten members, Thane / Jarl or below. -Must pass review of conduct. -Receive certificate of rank -Receive set of feast garb. Ri/ Banrion- Twenty years in the Rogin -Must show five years active membership since earning Thane. -Must regularly teach learned skills to new members. -Must be able to prove skills at a large event, and have at least three Rogin who can vouch for proficiency of the various skills being raised to an advanced level of skill. -Must organize and run an overnight event -Must organize and run at least two events of basic/ intermediate skill classes of chosen skill(s). -Must tend fire, or cook a feast, or be camp-master for three events, at least two being of one night or more. -Must have fifteen votes of faith, Ri/ Banrion and below, present at any overnight event. -Must pass a review of conduct. -Receive certificate of rank -Receive sword, or other steel weapon. ---A member may choose to take the feminine form for any of the previously listed ranks over the masculine form at their own discretion. |
---Ideally, the High Chieftain should perform inductions, but if distance or other difficulties arise, a claw chieftain may perform an induction with the High Chieftain’s approval.
---Veteran members of Dagorhir with a minimum three years in the game will be granted time equal to half their total after six months in the Rogin.
---Combatants choosing to earn non-combatant ranks or non-combatants who choose to pick up weapons will not be required to fulfill time requirements between ranks up to the equivalent of their current position.
* To be considered active, a member must attend at least four battles or events a year, including at least one overnight event. Practices and constructive internet presence may be counted if extenuating circumstances arise.
**The review of conduct will be conducted by the High Chieftain, and two officers not of the same claw as the candidate. The candidate will have to be able to recite the Rogin Oaths, meet the requirements of the rank they are attempting and all preceding ranks. If the candidate chooses, they may also be reviewed by all Rogin in attendance, with a majority vote to pass, at minimum 2/3rds in favor.
***The fighter must face each opponent one-on-one until victorious, before moving on to the next. If there are not enough fighters of the appropriate ranks present, the candidate may choose to include higher-ranking Rogin to meet the required number.

High Chieftain - Off-field and organizational leader, the face of the Rogin
-Must have a minimum of three years' membership in the Rogin.
-Must be at least 21 years of age.
-Must be an example in both conduct and appearance.
-Must demonstrate diplomatic and organizational skill (off-field leadership ability).
-Responsible for handling inquiries from new members and outsiders.
-Responsible for inter-unit communication.
-Responsible for directing the Council as needed if/when applicable and making the final decision in the case of a tied vote.
-Responsible for keeping and transporting the Camp Standard, including arranging transport to and from major events (Gates of Fire, Ragnarok, Badon Hill and any Rogin-hosted events) that he or she is unable to attend, as well as retrieving it after the event.
-Responsible for the duties of the Champion in their absence if a combatant.
-Chosen by unit-wide nomination and election. It is preferred that candidates not be in another position of leadership within the Rogin, but holding such a post will not necessarily bar the candidate from consideration.
-Passes a mantle/sash and the High Chieftain's book to each successor.
-May not hold two officer's positions at once.
Standard Bearer - Rallying point and morale booster on the field.
-Must have a minimum of eighteen months' membership in the Rogin.
-Must be at least 21 years of age.
-Must be an example in both conduct and appearance.
-Must demonstrate leadership ability on and off the field.
-Must demonstrate competence wielding the Battle Standards (spear and red axe) in combat.
-Responsible for keeping and transporting the Battle Standards, including arranging transport to and from major events (Gates of Fire, Ragnarok, Badon Hill and any Rogin-hosted events) that he or she is unable to attend, as well as retrieving it after the event.
-Responsible for writing and using a healing poem.
-Responsible for the duties of the High Chieftain in their absence and the duties of the Champion in theirs if the High Chieftain is a non-combatant.
-Chosen by the previous Standard Bearer. In the absence of such action, the High Chieftain will appoint a replacement until one can be chosen by unit-wide vote.
-Passes the Battle Standard to each successor. If an outgoing Standard Bearer wishes to keep their Standard(s) they are responsible for the creation of replacements and modifying their own to avoid confusion on the field.
-May not hold two officer's positions at once.
Centenar - On-field leader, commands the Rogin in battle.
-Must have a minimum of one year's membership in the Rogin or one year as an honorary member with 3/4 approval in a unit-wide vote.
-Must be at least 18 years of age.
-Must be an example in both conduct and appearance.
-Must demonstrate exceptional on-field leadership ability.
-Responsible for commanding the Rogin on the battlefield.
-Responsible for the duties of the Standard Bearer in their absence.
-Chosen by the previous Centenar. In the absence of such action, the High Chieftain will appoint a replacement until one can be chosen by unit-wide vote.
-Passes the Centenar's chain to each successor.
-May not hold two officer's positions at once.
Champion
-Must have a minimum of one year's membership in the Rogin or one year as an honorary member with 3/4 approval in a unit-wide vote.
-Must be at least 18 years of age.
-Must be an example in both conduct and appearance.
-Must demonstrate exceptional combat ability.
-Responsible for representing the Rogin in all ceremonial and single combat, unless another fighter is specifically requested.
-Responsible for the duties of the Centenar in their absence, may be delegated command by the Centenar upon agreement from both parties.
-Chosen by challenging the current champion or by tournament in the absence of a champion. A challenge consists of three sets of three fights each with the challenger's choice of weapons, the Champion's choice of weapons and the High Chieftain's choice of weapons. The challenger must win two out of three fights to win a set and two out of three sets to win the Championship.
-Passes the Champion's chain to each successor.
-May not hold two officer's positions at once.
-Must have a minimum of three years' membership in the Rogin.
